436 Cygni -- Talon

436 Cygni is a tired, red star slowly growing as it expends its hydrogen. The Talon system is almost desolate, consisting of three planets, one of which is more than a little hostile to life but which might, in time, be terraformed and colonized. What makes the system of interest, however, is the brown dwarf companion named 'Caliban.' Also, indications are that there was once a primitive civilization on Talon I, and plans are being made for an archaeological expedition. The system's proximity to the Horizon, while it is not a loran system, makes it a point for scientific research and study, as well as an ideal location for a military early-warning listening post.

TALON I -- THRONE
Throne is so named more from irony than out of history. It is believed that Throne was home to a very small empire, proud and simple but in time, like all empires, it descended into decadence. Vaguely recalling Keats' poem 'Ozymandias,' the captain of the CSA Orion named the world 'Throne.' Most of the monuments on the planet are dust and ruin, though one palace, with its crumbling pillars and vaults, the elaborate markings on it eroded away by titanic sandstorms, remains standing. A simple sandstone throne, fairly well-preserved throughout the centuries, remains at the far end of what might have once been a great audience chamber.

Throne's environment is somewhat hostile, with heavy sandstorms and very low atmospheric pressure and oxygen content. Evidence points to a solar cataclysm of some sort that radically altered Talon I's orbit, rendering the world uninhabitable within a generation.

OUTPOST MEDITERRANEAN
The BIS Mediterranean was a fleet refuelling ship that accompanied the BIS Thunderstruck when it arrived in this Domain. Although almost completely emptied of fuel in the long journey, it was still a useful hull. The ship was hidden in an asteroid field for later retrieval. When it was decided to place an outpost in the 436 Cygni system, the hull of the Mediterranean was brought back into service. It was towed to the system and outfitted as a scientific research base, way station, and listening post. Outpost Mediterranean is not the most sought-after asignment, but as the majority of the Mediterranean's hull has not been altered yet, the crew of the outpost have taken some liberties in setting portions up to ease the long tour of duty there.

The CSA Beagle operates out of Mediterranean, making six-month-long voyages out into the Horizon which is a few light-days away. Some startling data has been revealed and the scientists, at the very least, rarely lack for anything to do. The same cannot be said for the Signals/Intelligence personnel, whose job it is to monitor the local jumpspace for echoes and stellarcom or subspace signal traffic. 436 Cygni is on the opposite side of Cygnus from Tandara, and so their duties remain unspectacular. Outpost Mediterranean is being envisioned as a hub for trade and commerce within the sector. It is protected by a defensive laser array and a battery of plasers and point-defense missiles.
