Background: The CSA Edge was constructed soon after the CSA Horizon was hijacked. The class, originally designated CY-237, was intended to serve as a multirole support craft, but the initial designs failed to adequately provide a modular system that was cost-effective. Instead, the class is multirole but only in that a ship must spend some time in a drydock to have her systems changed over to the new configuration. Edge was the first of this new class of 'multirole auxiliaries' but numerous problems crept into her constuction. When she finally slipped her moorings, the problems only increased to the point where the chief engineer refused to continue operating her without extended drydock time. Because sister ships have performed relatively flawlessly, the Edge's unusual problem history is attributed to being the first of her class, and she spends more time in drydock. It is believed she will, at some point, simply be scrapped and rebuilt from the keel up.
