Background: The Darktower was conceived partly as an escort for the Blacksilver and partly as a power projection unit of its own. Construction began shortly before the nova of 61 Cygni. During the two weeks of emigration following the Cygni nova a great deal of effort was put into making Deneb V into a suitable home, and it was almost lost when a Cthulhi ship began to raid the colony. Darktower had begun construction, and so it was decided early on that the christening of the advanced destroyer would in a sense mark Cygnus's passage from an era where fear of the nighttime sky held sway, to a time when Cygnians could look up at the stars without fear. A passage, some felt, from night to day. The ship's motto, 'Out Of The Darkness', represents this Cygnian hope for peace and a better tomorrow. The ship's unique color scheme is designed to defeat visual sensors, making it difficult to visually determine the ship's distance and heading.
